The places surrounding our refuge on Campolongo Pass offer countless things to do in both summer and winter.
We have already mentioned the bike and ski trails and the motorbike and car routes you can take on the Sellaronda Circuit but now we want to tell you about a fascinating route that brings together skiing, nature and history: The Great War Tour.

80 kilometres amid the Dolomites and their history

The Great War ski trail runs across Veneto and Trentino Alto Adige, circling around Col di Lana, sadly called the "hill of blood" for the numerous soldiers who lost their life there.
As you travel right to the foot of such famous peaks as Civetta, Pelmo, Tofane, Lagazuoi, Conturines, Settsass, Sassongher, Sella and Marmolada, you will discover the places that staged the bloody battles of the First World War.
As well as enjoying the stunning landscapes of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site you will encounter the trenches, shooting positions and tunnels of that front that still bear witness to the terrible battles fought between the Italians and Austrians during the First World War.

The ski tour and ski busses

The circular ski tour can be travelled in about 7-8 hours with ski stretches on some of the most beautiful Dolomite pistes alternating with brief stretches on the ski busses linking the various ski resorts.
In order to take the Great War Tour it is necessary to obtain the Dolomiti Superski Skipass and some journeys by bus (Skibus Pescul-Fedare, Skibus Masarè-Malga Ciapela), taxi-bus and horse-drawn sledge have to be paid for separately.

Pizza or local cuisine?

After an energetic day's skiing or just to give yourself a break before carrying on with your tour, stop and eat here at Ütia La Tambra.
You can choose between normal open pizzas and folded calzoni cooked in our wood-fired oven, or sample traditional local Ladin dishes. Then to finish off, try one of our "naughty but nice" desserts: a strudel, cake or tiramisù, or vanilla ice cream or yoghurt, or if you would rather, there are local cheeses to sample teamed with fruity mustard.
